We are looking for an experienced Scientist to join our R&D Assay Development team and in this role, you will be responsible for initiating, directing, and executing scientific research and/or development strategies.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for a significant portion of a complex project or an entire less complex project or multiple less complex projects. Understands the scope of the overall project in the scope of corporate strategy. May manage 2 or more Scientist 2 personnel who have sub groups of Research Associates and Scientist 1. May represent R&D on a Core Team for a product development project. May have budgetary responsibility for the R&D portion of the budget related to their project. Demonstrated results in research or product development efforts in three or more of the following areas:

  • Core Services – e.g. Microbiology skills, bioinformatics, sequencing, cloning, analytical chemistry, oligo synthesis and/or purification

  • Feasibility – e.g. Contributing to one or more of the following: the design of oligo systems, sample processing or assay formulation experiments. Perform experiments to support feasibility of software such as results processing, change to the instrument or new instrumentation.

  • Assay Integration – Executing experiments in one or more of the following areas:

  • Support of the ADM, sequence file results processing or other software modules required to run the assay on the instrument.

  • Experiments to test assay performance at the extreme operating parameters of the instrument.

  • Experiments to transfer successfully an assay fully developed on one platform to another.

  • Experiments to improve assay or instrument robustness and ultimately performance.

  • May be asked present work at scientific conferences or write scientific papers. Collaborates and communicates effectively with junior level employees, peers and cross-functional teams across all levels of the organization.

  • Make Sound Decisions: Makes timely decisions based on accurate logic; looks beyond symptoms to identify causes of problems and drives team to routinely perform root cause analyses; makes decisions in the face of uncertainty; takes all important issues into account when making decisions, including impact on people.

Education:

  • B.A. /B.S. Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field.

  • M.S. Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field.

  • Ph.D. Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field.

Experience:

  • 7-9 years post-baccalaureate laboratory experience. Industrial experience preferred.

  • 6-8 years laboratory experience post-M.S. without thesis. Industrial experience preferred.

  • 5-7 years laboratory experience post M.S. with thesis. Industrial experience preferred.

  • Ph.D. with no post-doctoral research experience or 4-6 years industrial experience.

  • Ph.D. with post-doctoral research experience and 3-5 years industrial experience.

The annualized base salary range for this role is $108,700 to $170,000 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs and market demand.
